We also have some news we’d like to share with you about what’s been happening at your gym!

CURRICULUM TRAINING, PRE-TEST AND EXAMS

Our curriculum-based training sessions, pre-tests and exams are an important part of our Krav Maga training and offer our members the opportunity to test and develop their skills.

Below you will find more information about the upcoming events:

Please register before 24 September via the contact form.
  • Pre-test: On Sunday 29 October 2023, we are organising a pre-test for all levels. This training session is always subject to there being a sufficient number of participants. The cost is €15 per level. The pre-test will take place at our main venue in Tilburg between 1.00 pm and 7.00 pm; the exact time will be announced in due course. Please register before 22 October via the contact form.
  • Local and National Exams: We also have a local exam in Tilburg on Wednesday 24 May (P1, P3 & P5) and a national exam on Saturday 24 June (P2) and Sunday 25 June (P4 & G-levels) in Almere. All P-levels cost €45 (exam fee, patch & certificate) and all G-levels cost €50 (exam fee, patch & certificate). The venue in Almere will be announced in due course via IKMF. Register for the local exam by 1 May or for the national exam by 1 June via the contact form.

REMINDER: REGISTER FOR IKMF

We would like to remind all members to register with the IKMF Krav Maga Federation. This is compulsory for everyone who practises Krav Maga. We consider this important, and it is a requirement set by the federation. If you have not yet registered, you can here register.

WOMEN-ONLY ADVANCED KRAV MAGA COURSE

We have developed a special course for all women who have previously taken part in the Krav Maga Women Only course and all women who attend the regular Krav Maga classes. This spring, we are organising an advanced Women Only course comprising six sessions. This course is designed to broaden and deepen women’s knowledge of self-defence situations they may encounter. There is a free introductory session on Monday 24 April. The sessions take place on Mondays from 8.15 pm to 9.15 pm, and the course starts on Monday 8 May and runs until 19 June (excluding 29 May, which is Whitsun). The cost is €95 for early bird bookings (before 26 April) or €115 for regular bookings after 26 April.

Sign up for the course now and you’ll be warmly welcomed to our introductory lesson via the contact form.

Change to membership fees

We would like to inform you of a change to the membership fees. From the May billing cycle onwards, the membership fees for all current memberships will be adjusted. You can view the new fees here find.

We have tried to postpone this change for as long as possible despite rising costs, but unfortunately there is no way around it. If you registered after 15 March 2023, there will be no change, as the new membership fees had already been implemented for new members by that date.

If you have a multi-year membership, you will continue to benefit from the 10%, 20% or 30% discount compared to the standard membership. This discount therefore remains unchanged.

If you have any questions about this change, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your understanding.

New course on managing aggression

We are delighted to share the good news that our instructor, Riaz Taus, has recently successfully completed the post-HBO training programme in aggression management at the Ponsacademie. We are therefore pleased to announce that we are now offering a new course: Dealing with aggression!

But what exactly does aggression management involve? During this training course, you will learn how to deal with aggression from others in a safe and effective manner. You’ll learn how to recognise and categorise aggression at an early stage, and then take steps to de-escalate the situation. All of this mainly takes place before the scenarios we cover in our Krav Maga classes. You’ll learn to apply de-escalation techniques in conversation and to listen carefully to your own emotions.

We are currently planning the course and would love to hear from you to let us know if you’re interested. You can do this via our contact form.

We look forward to working with you to manage aggression and develop the right skills to deal with these situations!

Grappling

We’d also like to draw your attention to our grappling classes. These classes are suitable for anyone aged 14 and over, whether you’re already a FIT or Krav Maga member. As a current member, you can even attend two free taster sessions. Curious? Then click here link.

Timetable during holidays and/or public holidays

We’d also like to draw your attention to our revised timetable due to public holidays and/or school holidays. Check the calendar in case of any changes. Did you know that in weeks when we have a revised timetable, you’re welcome to attend all classes in the week before and the week after? This is the perfect opportunity to try out our other classes too.

New back-office staff member

As of mid-March, we have a new back-office staff member. Marc is delighted to be joining the Taus family. Marc is 5e A first-year SPECO Sportmarketing student at Fontys University of Applied Sciences in Tilburg. He’d like to meet the members on the floor one day and make videos with them for the gym. Sam is leaving us, and we’d like to thank her for her hard work and wish her every success with her future plans!

WhatsApp groups

Finally, we’d like to draw your attention to our WhatsApp groups. In these groups, we’ll keep you up to date with the latest news and you’ll have access to all the videos we record during the lessons. This way, you can review at home what you learnt in that lesson and see how well you’re getting on. If you’re not yet in the WhatsApp group, please send a message to: +31653974470 and we'll add you!

Supplements

The other day I saw a episode of ‘Boos’ about Viteezy: a company that sells personalised packs of vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements. You answer a few questions and it generates a recommendation for vitamins and minerals, which you can then order from them. In this episode, however, a young woman was featured who had suffered liver damage as a result of taking a particular supplement. An extreme case, but it certainly got me thinking. Because companies like Viteezy are becoming increasingly common. Unfortunately, these companies aren’t concerned with your health, but with selling their product.

If you eat a healthy and balanced diet, you don’t actually need dietary supplements. In fact, it is known that consuming too much of certain nutrients over a long period of time can be harmful. For example, more than 250 mg of magnesium from tablets can have a laxative effect, long-term excessive doses of vitamin D can lead to kidney damage, and an excess of vitamin B6 can damage the nervous system. You can only suffer such an ‘overdose’ through the use of supplements.

There are specific cases in which taking extra vitamins and minerals is necessary, for example, vitamin D for people over 70 or those with dark skin. Certain dietary supplements are also important if you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. In these cases, always check with a doctor or dietitian to find out the correct dosage.

Are you feeling unwell or out of shape, or do you think you might need a bit of a boost? If so, first consider what changes you can make to your current diet before turning to supplements. Consult a doctor or dietitian to find out which supplements might be advisable. And if you’re unsure about any deficiencies, have your blood levels checked.
