Reminder: Register for the IKMF

We would like to remind you that registration with the IKMF Krav Maga Federation is compulsory for all members who practise Krav Maga. It is important that you complete this registration as soon as possible, as membership is required to sit the exams.

A special membership is available for parents of children and young people. You can read more about this on the website of IKMF.

We would kindly ask you to arrange your child’s membership as soon as possible. It is important that children are registered in order to take part in the IKMF exams. We would like all our members to have the opportunity to develop their skills and demonstrate what they have learnt.

Women-Only Advanced Krav Maga Course (for mums and girls aged 14 and over)

For all mums and daughters who have previously taken part in the Krav Maga Women Only course, and all the ladies who attend the regular Krav Maga classes, we have a great course on offer. This spring, we’re organising an advanced Women Only course consisting of six sessions. This will help you boost your personal resilience and self-confidence. There’s a free introductory session on Monday 24 April. The sessions take place on Mondays from 8.15 pm to 9.15 pm, and the course starts on Monday 8 May and runs until 19 June (excluding 29 May, which is Whitsun). The cost is €95 for early bird bookings (before 26 April) or €115 for regular bookings after 26 April.

Sign up for the course now and you’ll be warmly welcomed to our introductory lesson via the contact form.

Change to membership fees

We would like to inform you of a change to the membership fees. From the May billing cycle onwards, the membership fees for all current memberships will be adjusted. You can view the new fees here find.

We have tried to postpone this change for as long as possible despite rising costs, but unfortunately there is no way around it. If you registered after 15 March 2023, there will be no change, as the new membership fees had already been implemented for new members by that date.

If you have a multi-year membership, you will continue to benefit from the 10%, 20% or 30% discount compared to the standard membership. This discount therefore remains unchanged.

If you have any questions about this change, please do not hesitate to contact us. Thank you for your understanding.

New course on managing aggression

We have some good news! Riaz Taus has successfully completed the aggression management trainer training course!

During these training sessions, you will learn how to deal with aggression from others in a safe and effective manner. You will also learn to apply de-escalation techniques that can be used, for example, in the workplace. Are you interested in this? If so, please get in touch via our contact form.

Did you know that in weeks when we have a revised timetable, you’re welcome to attend all classes in the week before and the week after? This is the perfect opportunity to try out our other classes too.

Supplements

The other day I saw a episode of ‘Boos’ about Viteezy: a company that sells personalised packs of vitamins, minerals and other dietary supplements. You answer a few questions and it generates a recommendation for vitamins and minerals, which you can then order from them. In this episode, however, a young woman was featured who had suffered liver damage as a result of taking a particular supplement. An extreme case, but it certainly got me thinking. Because companies like Viteezy are becoming increasingly common. Unfortunately, these companies aren’t concerned with your health, but with selling their product.

If you eat a healthy and balanced diet, you don’t actually need dietary supplements. In fact, it is known that consuming too much of certain nutrients over a long period of time can be harmful. For example, more than 250 mg of magnesium from tablets can have a laxative effect, long-term excessive doses of vitamin D can lead to kidney damage, and an excess of vitamin B6 can damage the nervous system. You can only suffer such an ‘overdose’ through the use of supplements.

There are specific cases in which taking extra vitamins and minerals is necessary, for example, vitamin D for people over 70 or those with dark skin. Certain dietary supplements are also important if you follow a vegetarian or vegan diet. In these cases, always check with a doctor or dietitian to find out the correct dosage.

Are you feeling unwell or out of shape, or do you think you might need a bit of a boost? If so, first consider what changes you can make to your current diet before turning to supplements. Consult a doctor or dietitian to find out which supplements might be advisable. And if you’re unsure about any deficiencies, have your blood levels checked.
