Louise Pross

Krav Maga for adults, teenagers, children and women only

About me

To help someone to goals Reaching those goals – or even going beyond them – and pushing boundaries: that’s the best and most enjoyable work I can imagine. That’s why I chose to become a lecturer, and I now work at Fontys University of Applied Sciences. My name is Louise Pross and I am a lecturer in English and intercultural communication, and I teach the Video module.

I also really enjoy working as a study and career counsellor and an educational developer. I am currently studying for my second Master’s degree (Creative and Media Education) to gain an even deeper understanding of pedagogy. To become stronger both physically and mentally, I started training at Taus Gym four years ago. It was there that I first discovered Krav Maga, and for me it quickly became more than just a self-defence sport; it turned into a real passion.

I have been interested in martial arts from a young age. During the years I spent living in Asia with my family, I was introduced to taekwondo and, whilst in Japan, to kendo as well. When I was 18, I left Japan to study at Utrecht University in the Netherlands.

Throughout those years, sport has always been very important to me. For a while, I rowed with the Orca student rowing club. After finishing my studies, I went travelling again and, amongst other things, lived and worked in China for a while. In China, I also started teaching English to adults and children aged between 5 and 12. It was then that I realised I have a real passion for teaching.

As well as teaching children, I also started volunteering at a care home for children with disabilities in Beijing. I have carried my passion for teaching and coaching through to all my work as a teacher at Berlitz in Beijing, and later as a personal development coach in the HR department at STMicroelectronics in Singapore.

My experiences abroad have led me to take an increasing interest in personal safety. For this reason, I set out to find a self-defence system that is realistic, quick to learn and suitable for women to practise. That’s how I came across Krav Maga.

For me, Krav Maga is the ultimate self-defence system because of the way it ties in seamlessly with instinctive reactions. Anyone can learn Krav Maga, and I’d like to help make that happen. My aim is to give everyone the opportunity to learn self-defence in a safe and familiar environment, and in doing so to push their own boundaries. I believe that the development and learning process is different for everyone, which is why I always prioritise personalised attention.
