Summer 2024 Newsletter: Kids & Young People

Summer has begun and we’re looking forward to a season full of sunshine, energy and fun!

In this edition, we’ll take a quick look back at all the events and achievements we’ve had over the past period.

We’ll also keep you updated on what the coming period has in store. The following events are on the agenda: the outdoor training sessions, the Women Only Krav Maga course, and the exams and preparations for them.

A look back at spring

We look back on the past season with great pleasure and pride. We learnt a great deal about first aid and safety during the first-aid course, and for the first time, children and young people sat the national exam.

We also raised a good amount of money for charity during the Night Against Sexual Violence and the FIT Champions event.

Below you’ll find a look back at these outstanding achievements!

.
First aid course

The annual first-aid course is over for another year! This course teaches you how to respond in the event of

providing first aid and also covering safety during training sessions.

This year, one of the young people took part in this course and passed it too!

Outdoor training sessions

With temperatures on the rise, it’s time to get back to training outdoors! This summer, classes will be held outdoors so that we can exercise together in the fresh air.
In both Tilburg and Breda, there will be up to and including 30 September 2024 the option of training outdoors. Whether an outdoor training session takes place depends on the weather and the topic we are covering.

Please bear in mind that there will always be the option to train outdoors. So, for the time being, please bring both your indoor and outdoor trainers to classes.

In Breda, the sports hall is closed during the summer holidays. Therefore, outdoor training sessions will take place on a number of fixed dates.
Outdoor training sessions will take place in Breda on the dates shown opposite.
Please note! On these dates, there will be no changing rooms or toilets available either.

Change to membership fees

As a socially responsible gym, we strive to make our training sessions accessible to as wide an audience as possible. We do this because we believe that everyone should have the opportunity to take part in high-quality self-defence and fitness training in a safe and pleasant environment.

Despite this, we cannot avoid the fact that we, too, are facing rising costs. As a result, we have to adjust our membership fees from time to time.

For new members, this price change will apply from 1 July 2024. For current members, this will only apply from 1 September 2024.

For multi-year memberships, the discount of 10%, 20% or 30% will, of course, continue to apply to the new membership fees.

Would you like to change your membership or do you have a question? Please let us know via the contact form.

We would like everyone to have the opportunity to take part in sport with us. We are therefore working hard to join forces with local council initiatives that can offer support to anyone who is struggling financially.

Would you like to find out more about this? Then have a look at this page.

Holiday timetable

The summer holidays are almost here again! This also means that a holiday timetable will be in place, and the lesson timetable will look a little different for a while.

The holiday timetable can be found in our calendar So make sure you check these in advance so that you can plan your training sessions properly.

From 22 July to 4 August We are closed and there are no lessons. During all other weeks of the holidays, there is a revised timetable.

During the weeks when there is a revised timetable, you are welcome to take part in all the training sessions we offer. Young people are even allowed to join in with all the adult training sessions!

Summer holidays: 6 July to 18 August 2024

Together, we are strong against cancer:

Please support me in the fight against cancer.

Hello fellow athletes, I’m Michael Rademaker, one of the original members. Thanks to Taus Gym, I lead a healthy and active life. Whereas I used to find it a struggle to go to the gym, I now go to Taus Gym with great pleasure and motivation.

I now want to channel this energy and strength into a good cause that is close to my heart. On 1 September, I will be taking part in Swim & Dance to Fight Cancer.

For me, taking part in this event has a deeply personal significance. The loss of my aunt to cancer and my mother’s diagnosis – which, thankfully, has been successfully treated – mean that this is a very real issue in my life. These experiences have strengthened my determination to help others in their fight against this disease.

By taking part in Swim & Dance to Fight Cancer, I want not only to do my bit to raise funds for cancer research, but also to inspire others to get active and fight for their health.

Together, we can ensure that more people have the chance of a successful treatment.

Please support me and my mission via my personal fundraising page on Fight Cancer:

Together, we can make a difference.

COLUMN BY DIETITIAN MEREL COENDERS

Oral health

I have recently joined the Mondhuys Dental Practice in Oosterhout as a dietitian. Here, I will be advising people on nutrition and oral health. Their philosophy is: prevention is better than cure. Brushing properly is important, but so is eating well.
So, over the coming period, I’ll be looking into nutrition and oral health.

Good oral health prevents bad breath, cavities, tooth decay and gum problems. It also helps you to keep your teeth as you get older.

Tooth loss has an impact on dietary choices and quality of life.

As good oral health is important for everyone, in this newsletter I’m sharing a few practical tips that can help protect tooth enamel and prevent cavities.

.

– Choose to have three main meals every day

and up to 4 snacks.

– Limit your consumption of: fizzy drinks with or without sugar, lemonade with or without

sugar, fruit juices, sports drinks,

etc.

– If you do decide to have one of the drinks listed above, drink it all in one go.

Taking small sips over a longer period of time means that the tooth enamel does not have enough time to repair itself.

Then rinse your mouth with water.

.

.

– Drink these as soon as possible

or drink through a straw.

– Limit your sugar intake. Take a close look at the list of ingredients on products. Are there any that you might be consuming without realising it?

Has any sugar been added?

– Don’t brush your teeth too soon after a meal. This can damage your tooth enamel. Wait at least 30

minutes before you brush your teeth. If you’ve eaten or drunk anything acidic (e.g. orange juice), wait at least 60 minutes.
