The sun is shining again, the days are getting longer and summer has officially begun! Here at Taus Gym, too, we’re looking forward to another energetic season. As well as our intense gym sessions, we’ll be heading out and about again this summer, and in this newsletter we’ll be sharing all about the activities and developments planned for the coming period.
What can you expect? We’ll be looking back on a great season full of achievements, sharing the holiday schedule and offering handy tips on how to keep training comfortably even during the hot weather. Of course, the outdoor training sessions and the sociable members’ get-together are back on the programme too, so make sure you’re there! You’ll also find out all about the new Women Only Krav Maga course and the upcoming exams.
Ready for a summer of sport? Then read on!
A look back at spring
New: Threat Awareness & Response Skills (TARS)
The missing link in resilience and self-defence.
In our Krav Maga classes, you’ll learn how to defend yourself when a situation turns physical. But what happens before that point? How do you recognise unusual behaviour? How do you prevent a situation from escalating? And how do you make the right choices when there’s no violence at all yet?
That is exactly where our new course Threat Awareness & Response Skills (TARS) is all about. During this course, you will learn to assess situations more effectively, recognise signs of potential danger and make informed choices before a situation gets out of hand. These skills are not only valuable when playing sport, but also in everyday life.
Over the course of three interactive evenings, you will learn, amongst other things:
- Recognising threats and unusual behaviour at an early stage
- Assessing situations more effectively through behavioural profiling
- Recognising different forms of aggression and de-escalating them appropriately
- Communicating effectively and setting boundaries
- Positioning yourself effectively and working together with bystanders
- Taking action during and after an incident
- When physical self-defence is necessary, and when it is not
The course consists of three sessions:
- Friday 9 October
- Friday 16 October
- Friday 6 November
🕖 Time: 7.30 pm – 9.30 pm
Taus Gym Tilburg
11A Professor Romeinstraat
All evening classes take place at our venue in Tilburg.
The course will go ahead provided there are at least 8 participants, and there is room for a maximum of 16 participants.
Sign up for the course via the contact form.
Members: €169,-
Non-members: €199,-
If you’re unable to attend on these dates but are still interested, please let us know. If there’s enough interest, we’ll organise this course more often or schedule a new session on different dates.
This course is a valuable addition to our regular Krav Maga training sessions. Whilst Krav Maga focuses primarily on physical self-defence, TARS focuses on awareness, prevention and decision-making. Together, they provide a comprehensive approach to personal safety and resilience.
We have thoroughly enjoyed developing this course and are convinced that it will be a valuable addition for many people, both inside and outside the gym. We look forward to welcoming the first group of TARS participants.
New FIT instructor: Mark van Gorp
After the summer holidays, we’ll be welcoming a familiar face as our new FIT instructor: Mark van Gorp!
Mark has been a member of Taus Gym for 12 years, and many members will know him as that incredibly fit and skilled man who’s always on hand to help others during their workouts. We’re therefore absolutely delighted to welcome him to our team of instructors.
What perhaps not everyone knows is that Mark competed in gymnastics at a high level and also has many years’ experience as a gymnastics coach. Teaching good motor skills, body control and safe movement is therefore second nature to him.
From after the summer holidays, Mark will be leading the FIT Circuit class every other week on Tuesday evenings. We’re already looking forward to his classes!

New website
You may have noticed by now: our website has had a makeover! Over the past few weeks, we’ve been working hard to revamp the website and make it even more user-friendly, so that all the information can be found more quickly and is presented more clearly.
Thanks to our new web developer and one of our members from Breda, Maarten and his company Trender, we have been able to significantly improve the website.
Are you curious to see the result? Then do feel free to take a look at www.tausgym.nl.
Do you have any tips, or is there any information you’d like to see? Please feel free to let us know via WhatsApp or the contact form.

Training smart on hot days
Over the past few weeks, we’ve already been enjoying summery temperatures, and there’s a good chance there are more hot days to come. Exercising in the heat is perfectly fine, but it does require a little extra care. The tips below will help you continue to exercise safely and responsibly, even on hot days.
👂 Listen to your body
Are you feeling dizzy or nauseous, or do you feel the heat is getting too much for you? Let an instructor know straight away and take a short break if necessary. It’s not a competition; training safely is always the top priority.
💧 Make sure you drink enough
Make sure you drink enough water throughout the day and start your training session well hydrated. During intense training sessions or when you’re sweating a lot, a sports drink can help to replenish fluids and electrolytes.
🍎 Eat enough
Your body uses more energy on hot days. So make sure you eat enough and don’t skip meals before you start training.
👕 Wear light, breathable clothing
Choose breathable sportswear that wicks away heat effectively. This helps your body to cool itself down more effectively.
☀️ Safety comes first
The health and safety of our members are always our top priority. On hot days, we adjust our training sessions where necessary so that everyone can continue to exercise safely. In the event of extreme heat, we may decide to cancel a session. As a guideline, we use a room temperature of 30°C or higher for children’s and youth classes and 33°C or higher for adult classes.
We always communicate any changes via our WhatsApp groups, email and the calendar on our website. If you’re not yet in one of our WhatsApp groups but would like to stay up to date, please let us know via the contact form, we’d be happy to add you.
Outdoor training sessions
With the lovely weather on the horizon, it’s time for our outdoor training sessions again! Training outdoors provides a different, more realistic setting and offers a nice change from our regular classes.
During the months of July to September Instructors may choose to move training sessions outdoors. So, during this period, please bring both your indoor trainers and your outdoor trainers to training. On hot days, don’t forget your water bottle and, if necessary, sun cream.
For members in Breda, a number of classes will definitely take place outdoors due to the hall’s availability during the summer holidays. The dates in question are as follows:
- Thursday 16 July
- Monday 20 July
- Thursday 13 August
- Monday 17 August
Please note! On these dates, the hall will not be open and there will be no facilities for changing or using the toilet. Please therefore come to the training session already changed and prepared.
In the event of bad weather, outdoor training sessions will be cancelled. We’ll announce any changes via the WhatsApp groups, so please check these carefully before coming to training.
We look forward to seeing you at one of our outdoor training sessions!

Holiday timetable
The summer holidays are just around the corner! Of course, you can still train during the holidays. In fact, regardless of your membership, you’re welcome to take part in all our training sessions during the summer holidays. It’s a great opportunity to try out a different discipline or fit in an extra training session.
During the summer holidays, we do operate a revised timetable. As a result, some training sessions may be cancelled. Please therefore always check our calendar, so that you don’t encounter any surprises.
Please note: Taus Gym will be completely closed from 27 July to 9 August. There will be no training sessions during this period.
Summer holidays: 11 July to 23 August

Exams & preparation
After the summer, the pre-tests and Krav Maga exams are scheduled to take place again. Would you like to progress to the next level in Krav Maga? Then now is the perfect time to show what you’ve learnt over the past few months. Below you’ll find all the information about the pre-tests and the official IKMF exams.
PRE-TEST
The pre-test is intended for members who wish to prepare for the official IKMF exam. During this training session, you’ll demonstrate your current level and receive personalised feedback from the instructors. You don’t need to have fully mastered all the techniques yet; the pre-test is actually designed to help you gain an insight into your strengths and the areas you can work on in the coming period.
The training course largely follows the same format as the official exam. This allows you to experience what an exam is like and helps you work towards the real exam with greater confidence.
The next pre-test will take place on Sunday 27 September 2026.
The training session lasts approximately 2 hours and takes place between 13:00 and 19:00. You will be notified of the exact start time by email after the closing date.
Location: 11A Professor Romeinstraat, Tilburg
Clothing: Full IKMF kit is compulsory. From P2 onwards, shin guards are also compulsory.
The cost of the pre-test is €20 per level.
Afterwards, you’ll receive personalised feedback from the instructors, so you’ll know where you stand and what you can still work on in the run-up to the official exam.
You can register via the contact form. The deadline for registration is Sunday 13 September 2026.
Would you like to find out first whether you’re ready? If so, discuss this with your instructor.
You can find more information about the pre-test on the Pre-test page.
Official IKMF examinations
Are you ready for the next step? If so, you can sit the official IKMF exam. During the exam, your techniques, understanding and skills will be assessed. If you pass, you will officially achieve your next level in Krav Maga.
Depending on the level at which you are sitting your exam, it will take place at our centre in Tilburg or during a national exam day in Almere. To take part, you will need a valid IKMF membership compulsory.
Do you think you’re ready for the exam? Discuss this with your instructor and then register via the contact form. Further information about the exams, the exam requirements and IKMF membership can be found on our Exam information page.

A balanced and varied diet can effectively support recovery after exercise or an injury. It is important to remember that recovery is not determined by diet alone, but also by other factors such as sufficient rest and sleep.
We wish everyone a wonderful, active and, above all, safe summer! Enjoy the holidays, keep active, and we hope to see you again over the coming months at training sessions, outdoor activities and other fun events at Taus Gym.
Best regards,
Team Taus Gym
