Our rules for children’s and young people’s classes

A break from mum and dad: how kids can get more out of training

During our children’s and young people’s training sessions, we focus not only on technique, but also on self-confidence, independence and resilience. That is precisely why we believe it is important for children to take part in the training as independently as possible, without their parents watching from the sidelines.

We often find that the presence of parents during lessons causes a distraction. For example, children seek eye contact, glance round to see where their parents are, or react differently when they know they are being watched. This can be at the expense of their concentration and participation in the training session.

In addition, training independently is also part of their development. Without a parent immediately nearby, children are encouraged to tackle situations on their own, listen to the instructor and trust in their own abilities. This ties in perfectly with what we work on in Krav Maga: independence and resilience.

When are you actually allowed to watch?

Of course, we understand that it’s nice to see what your child is getting up to during lessons. That’s why parents and carers are welcome to:

  • during the trial lesson to be present;
  • after that once every six months to sit in on a lesson.

Apart from these times, we ask parents not to be present in the training hall during children’s and young people’s classes.

Where can you wait?

Would you like to stay nearby? In Tilburg, you can wait upstairs in the lounge whilst the class is on. In Breda, you can wait in the changing room.

But of course, you could just as easily use that hour of training for something else. Pop out for some shopping, go for a walk, a run or a cycle – and before you know it, the training session will be over.😉

This gives the children and young people plenty of scope to train independently and develop their skills further. Thank you for your understanding and cooperation!
