NEWSLETTER VOLUME 7 NO. 3

Hello there!

Hopefully you’re just as cheerful as we are 😀 Yes, that’s partly down to the sunshine, but also very much down to the new location. Every day, we go to work with even more enthusiasm than before. Because we can already see that the new venue is starting to look just like we’d imagined: a friendly gym with a great atmosphere, where everyone is welcome to train together, regardless of their experience or fitness level. But also to simply enjoy each other’s company! We had a brilliant time at the official opening, where we trained together and raised a glass to the new venue. And we had a brilliant time at the annual members’ BBQ too! We’re going to keep this motivating and positive sporting atmosphere going with you all and focus on challenging and social sports activities at Taus Gym!

For now, why not take a moment to sit back in the sunshine and read the newsletter, which covers all our upcoming plans, activities, workshops and the summer timetable – and, of course, you’ll find the member interview at the end!

Enjoy reading!

Krav Maga Women Only focuses specifically on situations that women may find themselves in. During this workshop, attention will be paid to self-defence against sexual harassment. During the workshop, we will cover physical and verbal self-defence techniques to counter sexual harassment. An essential training course for all women!

Free Krav Maga workshop for young people

On Wednesday 5 September, there will be a Krav Maga workshop for young people aged 12–16!
Through Krav Maga, young people learn to stand up for themselves, whilst improving their health, fitness and motor skills. This also contributes to their self-confidence and a positive self-image. And this is very important. Because a child who exudes self-confidence is less likely to fall victim to threatening situations at school or on the street.
Krav Maga is therefore particularly valuable for every child’s safety!

Member interview!

For me, Taus Gym is… a place where I can push my limits and get to know myself better.

Name: Laura Huijgen

Age: 20

Member since: May 2018

Which classes are you taking: Krav Maga Women Only

  • What do you do in your day-to-day life?
    • I’m studying at Tilburg University, I do salsa dancing and I’m a member of the rowing club, Vidar.
  • Where does your interest in sport come from?
    • I’ve been doing sport all my life and I’ve come to love the physical challenge. I took up Krav Maga because I’m planning to travel in the future and I want to be prepared for any potentially dangerous situations where I might have to defend myself.
  • What sort of sports have you played?
    • I’ve played hockey all my life and these days I row.
  • What do you look for in a sport?
    • A challenge, but also a team-building exercise.
  • What does sport mean to you, both physically and mentally?
    • It’s a mental outlet for me. When I’ve been exercising, my worries seem much less overwhelming, so it helps me de-stress.
  • What was your first experience of Krav Maga?
    • I did some research online myself into self-defence for women, which is how I came across Taus Gym, and I booked a trial lesson straight away.
  • Why did you choose TG?
    • During the taster lesson, I was given a warm welcome by the group and I soon realised how useful the lessons were.
  • What are your fitness goals at TG?
    • I want to learn how to defend myself better, so that I feel confident, for example when I’m walking down the street in the evening.
  • What goals have you already achieved at TG?
    • I have realised that I am much stronger than I thought, and I feel more empowered in situations that might be threatening.
  • What was the most memorable experience you’ve had at TG?
    • That was the moment when I was finally able to really let myself go on the punching bag for the first time! It felt as if a weight had been lifted from me – something that had previously been holding me back from showing what I was capable of and giving it my all. It felt great!
  • How do you balance exercise with your work and social life?
    • After my daytime studies, I set aside time for exercise.
  • Do you have any fitness and/or health tips that have worked for you and that you’d like to share with the other members?
    • Doing your workout early in the day makes you feel like you can tackle the whole day!
