Rob van den Brand

Assistant instructor

About me

My name is Rob van den Brand (1976) and I am the father of two children. In my day-to-day life, I am a teacher at the Onderwijsgroep Tilburg. I started working at a VMBO school in 2002 and made the switch to MBO in 2013. Since then, I have been teaching students on the Safety and Craftsmanship course at ROC Tilburg. We prepare our students for a role within the Ministry of Defence.

At school, I teach Dutch and Maths. I am also a resilience instructor. Today’s society presents many challenges. I believe that someone who is resilient in several areas (physically, mentally and morally) is better able to cope with these challenges.

Born and raised in Tilburg, I went to university in Maastricht in 1995. It was there that I was introduced to jiu-jitsu. After I finished my studies, I continued practising it in Tilburg.

However, I felt something was missing in jiu-jitsu. It was through the film ‘Enough’, starring Jennifer Lopez, that I was introduced to Krav Maga. I looked into Krav Maga in more depth and realised that it is a fairly simple yet effective self-defence system, applicable in all sorts of situations.

I started practising Krav Maga in 2009 and have been enjoying training at Taus Gym since March 2013. My highlight was in August 2019 when I achieved the Graduate 1 level.

I attend the Krav Maga and punching bag training classes at Taus Gym myself. As an assistant instructor, I sometimes lead the class. I’d love to see you at a class one day, and my aim is for you to go home feeling satisfied.
