Assistant instructor

About me

My name is Paul, I live in Tilburg and I’m married to Sandra. Together, we look after three children. They’re all teenagers now – they keep us pretty busy, and it’s lovely to see them all growing up as people.

An acquaintance told me about Krav Maga. Realistic self-defence, drills, defences against threats involving weapons, and defending against groups. I was excited! In 2011, I found a gym in Tilburg where I trained for a few years. When I could no longer fit it in due to my work, I stopped training for a year. During that year, I missed Krav Maga, and in 2017 I started training at Taus Gym. I really like the gym and the classes are brilliant! I’m challenged to push my limits and train hard. There’s always a really relaxed and safe atmosphere.

The Krav Maga classes I’ve taken have given me a lot of self-confidence. When I’m out and about, I’ve become more aware of my surroundings. That makes me feel good.

For me, exams are a chance to put my techniques to the test. In February 2023, after a long period of hard and intensive training, I passed my G1 exam. You really have to work incredibly hard for the exams. If you pass an exam, you’ve truly earned it – it wasn’t just handed to you.

A few years ago, I had the opportunity to try my hand at teaching children and young people. I enjoyed doing that for two years, but I also realised that it took up a lot of time, which came at the expense of my own training sessions. I realised that I’m more of a practitioner than a trainer. Now I teach as an assistant instructor when the other instructors are unavailable. I hope to meet you one day during the lessons!
