FIT champions

You can find the programme for this event here.

Anyone aged 14 or over is welcome to take part in FIT Champions, and parents are, of course, also very welcome to join in. The event will take place at our main venue in Tilburg, at Prof. Romeinstraat 11A, and the fee is €15 per participant.

The doors open at 10.00 and we start at 10.30, so make sure you’re on time!

Night Against Sexual Violence

Sexual violence is a reality that can take many forms, ranging from unwanted behaviour and harassment to (physical) abuse. Worldwide, 1 in 3 women experience these forms of violence.

On the night of 20 to 21 April, a walk is being organised in Amsterdam to raise awareness of this issue.

Plan International is the organisation behind the event, and its motto is ‘Everyone should be able to walk safely in the streets’ – we want to create a culture in which everyone feels safe, respected and heard.

On this Night Against Sexual Violence, we encourage everyone to take part in the walk and bring about change in the world.

Are you aged 18 or over and would you like to take part? You can sign up by sending an email to Louise (stayaway@ikmf.nl). She is the head of the women’s division in the Netherlands and is organising the team that will be competing on behalf of the IKMF.

Can’t take part but would like to contribute to the event? Please make a donation at Louise or Emma.

COLUMN BY DIETITIAN MEREL COENDERS

High Protein

Supermarkets these days are full of ‘protein’ products. Brands such as HIPRO sell drinks, puddings and other dairy products that contain a large amount of protein. More and more own-brand products are also capitalising on this trend. In practice, I’m often asked whether these products are suitable for use in conjunction with exercise.
That high protein content looks promising. HIPRO Protein skyr-style contains 15 grams of protein per 160-gram pot. That’s quite a lot, you might say. But plain skyr already contains nearly 17 grams of protein per 160 grams. You pay a lot more for HIPRO skyr: 9.31 euros per kilo. The plain skyr from Albert Heijn costs 2.90 euros per kilo. So you actually get less protein for your money.

Furthermore, the list of ingredients in such a protein product contains many more additives. Whilst a standard dairy product consists of just one ingredient, the list for a protein product is considerably longer. It is therefore a product that has been processed to a much greater extent. For the sake of your health, it is better to opt for unprocessed products as much as possible.

The advantage of protein products is that they’re convenient. They’re often packaged in single portions and easy to take with you. What’s more, you don’t always fancy a large tub of skyr when you get home late at night after a workout. A protein drink is often a bit easier to manage in such situations. They’re also available in a range of flavours, which keeps things tasty and enjoyable.

It’s better for your wallet and your health to opt for the most natural options possible, but there’s certainly no harm in choosing a protein product every now and then. That way, you can keep things fun and varied for yourself.
